STUDYING THE LEGACY OF D. ALEJANDRO HERRERO AYLLÓN CONCERNING THE HERRERÍAS MINES

< return

The Herrerias Association, under the direction of the Director of the Municipal Archives of Huelva, Ms M ª Dolores Lazo, has done a thorough job of investigating the life of the architect D. Alejandro Herrero Allyon concerning Herrerías Mines, thanks to an agreement signed by the Association with the Department of Culture of the City of Huelva.

D. Alejandro Herrero Ayllón was Huelva’s city architect for 32 years, and was also the architect for the Ministry of Housing in the province, performing numerous works in our county.

The investigation work undertaken by our partner and art historian Natalia Santos, focused on four packages relating to the construction of the Herrerías Mines, also finding documents concerning the construction of the houses in the neighbourhood, which was given the name "Federico Mayo" after a mining engineer and general manager at the time.

We found documents, fine sketches, plans, budgets and even photographs and correspondence of the architect. Thanks to them, we can see the meticulous work of D. Alejandro Herrero and recognise his social conscience.
